I liked that the three volumes of Scott's work had been combined into one volume, I like the heft of a big book in my hands while reading. The stories progress onwards over time, at first Humankind seems to not have a chance in hell, but by the end, we're taking the fight to the Martians. New weapons, new tactics, new units, all progress over time on both sides. Plus you get perspectives from our Blue Planet defenders and also from the invading Red Planet forces. What also is nifty is how it is set pre-WW1 era, shortly after the original invasion chronicled in HG Wells "War of the Worlds". We have a chance now to win conventionally, but the Martians now have figure out to beat that nasty natural built in biological problem here on Earth. So it's going to be a close call!!! Good reading!
