Wisconsin, known as America’s Dairyland: a state rich in history and full of monsters! The database of Bigfoot sightings spans from early accounts to modern encounters— but he’s not the only large, hairy creature wandering around. On the lonely Bray Road, a fearsome wolf-like creature prowls the night. Many of the state’s lakes harbor serpents and water monsters, and big cats prowl the forests and fields; but there’s more—phantom kangaroos, goat men, thunderbirds, and what the heck is a Hodag? Find out in Badger State Monsters.
At ten pages, this book is slightly thicker than the book on Texas cryptids in this series. On the cover is a werewolf and on the back cover is a hodag. Part one focuses on lupine and lupoid beings such as the Ah'ne-pe, werewolves, the bear wolf of Oconto County, and the Beast of Bray Road. Part two focuses on Bigfoot and similar beings such as Bu-way-jinin, Cee-ha-tonka, the Hairy Man of Smoky Hill Mounds, the Cashton Creature and the Bluff Monster, to name a few. The section on aquatic monsters covers Mishipeshu, Bozho, Waaktcexi, Wakauija, Jenny of Geneva Lake, Pepie of Lake Pepin, and a variety of other monsters that dwell in lakes and rivers, too many for me to list and many do not have names. Part four covers a variety of beasts, black panthera, phantom Kangaroos, thunderbirds such as Chequah and Chenemeke, the Wendigo, the Goatman, Pigmen, giants, pygmy mastodons, Memegwesi, Memkeweisak, an elfish being named Pumpkin, a couple of vampiric mystery beasts and more. The final section covers the Fearsome Critters of lumberjack more and the author admits that only a selection are covered. Among them are large mosquitoes, snow snakes, hoop snakes, argopelters, the axehandle hound, gumberoo, hidebehind, luferlang, sliver cat, Gyascutus, whirligig fish, goofus bird, gillygaloo, fur-bearing trout, and the Hodag gets a whole chapter. Lots of pics in the form of photos and illustrations.
