Out of print in the U.S. Mesmerizing 1988 debut album from this highly original Canadian songstress (and sister of actress Catherine O'Hara). This critically adored album was actually recorded in '84 but legal wrangling held it up for four years. Her songwriting and vocal skills were unique, and her musical outlook influenced many female performers that have appeared on the scene in the last few decades. Although Miss America introduced the world to a fantastic new talent, she has yet to follow it up with a second album proper. Virgin.
I heard the producer of "Son of Rogues Gallery" discussing his new album on the radio the other day. One of the singers on that album is Mary Margaret O'Hara. During the discussion he mentioned this album in glowing terms. After listening to it, I completely agree. It is a very unique piece of musical work with tracks that demonstrate amazing creativity. I think the album has been overlooked for all these years because it does not easily fit into any standard pigeon hole.
