Product Description

Product Description From lower Manhattan to the mountains of Tennessee! The eclectic selections on this unique CD feature strings and marching cadence, pulsating swing and bluegrass. They were penned after terrorists attacked America on 9-11-01. Author/composer Carl Mays pays tribute to heroic efforts and the outpouring of love and prayer - as he celebrates America's zest for life and enduring freedom. Vocalist Lakieta Bagwell, with her thrilling wide range, sings of national unity and belief in the American way of life in the spine-chilling title song. Narrator Carl Mays traces the fight for "enduring freedom" from the signing of the Declaration of Independence to the present - and beyond - in "This Nation, Under God." With a honey-smooth, down-home voice, Rusty Chambers celebrates the happiness of a wedding in the midst of uncertain times as he belts out "Just Married Today (In Gatlinburg)." Citico Creek, an extraordinary bluegrass band from the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, celebrate the simple life and the joy it brings, as they tell the story of "Hilda Faye." Its a unique collection - one you will want to play over and over again. Author/composer Carl Mays is a native Tennessean and resident of Gatlinburg, from where he travels nationwide to celebrate "The Spirit Of America." An inspiring speaker and writer, Carl expresses himself through presenting speeches and writing books, stories and songs. You will be inspired, motivated and ready to grab hold of life when you personally experience the "spirit" this CD contains! From the Artist Hi, I'm Carl Mays, author/composer of the material on this CD. Shortly following the tragedies of 9-11-01, I flew to a speaking engagement on a plane that could accommodate over 250 passengers. Only 11 people were on board. During this flight I began to write "The Spirit Of America." Then, on 11-13-01, I flew into New York’s JFK Airport, the day following the crash of American Airlines Flight 587 that occurred shortly after take-off from JFK, claiming over 250 victims. I got a view of the Belle Harbor crash site. After a speaking engagement on Long Island, I visited lower Manhattan and Ground Zero. On my return flight I began to write "This Nation, Under God." Arriving at the Knoxville (TN) airport and then driving home to Gatlinburg, I saw a pickup truck merrily bouncing along in the midst of America’s critical times. Painted on its windows were the words, "Just Married Today!" This gave rise to a song of exuberance and celebration and became the third track on what to me was now being visualized as a very special mini-album. The 4th song on the CD sprang from a book in progress, a story I have been writing about "Hilda Faye," a young lady who cherishes the simple things of life and goes for the gusto, regardless of circumstances or what people may say. The times in which we are living challenge all Americans to unite as brothers and sisters, and to stand up for what is right. At the same time, we are challenged to appreciate life, its blessings and opportunities – to take advantage of them and to help others to do the same. That's what this CD is all about. I hope you might enjoy it - and I think you will really like the musical contributions of Lakieta Bagwell, Rusty Chambers and Citico Creek. His latest contribution to the music world is the mini-CD album, THE SPIRIT OF AMERICA. See more

The songs on this mini-album (4 tracks) are all good. However, the title song, "THE SPIRIT OF AMERICA," should become a classic. To me, it is a "God Bless America" song, but even deeper in meaning and more encompassing - especially since it was written following the tragic events of 9-11-1. And the vocalist, Lakieta Bagwell, does an absolutely magnificant job in reaching down and breathing living soul into the words and melody. I congratulate Carl Mays as author/composer and Miss Bagwell as vocalist. I think every American should begin each day listening to this song!
