South America speaks volumes of teenage angst and self-expression in a raspy and visceral manner which is truly unique to Thieves and Villains. Each song on the album is catchy without sounding over-produced (รก la Lily Allen). Songs like "South America" and "Drunk in Amsterdam" are truly the highlights and tone-setters of the album, demonstrating the clear sounds of Thieves and Villains to the listeners. "Some May Call it Rain" is another example of the angsty song, but this one feels more country-like than the other ones, which sound more rock-esque. Thieves and Villains truly did some extensive experimentation on this album, but unlike many albums designed as hybridizations of genres, this one really seems to have been quite the success.Overall, South America is a phenomenal album of the folk-hybrid genre, and it s a true pleasure to listen to over and over again, gaining value with familiarity.
