Product Description With over 3 million records sold and 16 Billboard Top 40 Country singles, former Academy of Country Music Male Vocalist of The Year Mark Wills is back with a hit single, a packed summer tour and a new album Looking For America. The title track Looking For America is already a certified smash playing on radio stations around the country as well as being Top 5 Most Requested on both CMT and GAC Country Music Television. Looking For America reunites Mark with superstar producer Chris Lindsey, who wrote and produced Mark's biggest hit, 19 Somethin. You can see Mark hosting the hit tv series 3 Gun Nation on Versus and look for him on tour all summer long including dates supporting our troops on military bases. Review Back when MCA Nashville was the gold standard, Wills was part of the wrecking crew and had the awards and recognition to prove it. Now, on his own like most of the rest of us, Wills takes a no holds barred, amped up hillbilly sound that cuts right to heart of getting through to the common man that needs to let off some steam. A high octane, in the moment set that doesn't hit you with politics other than rocking up the party, he's going to go the distance even without the machine behind him. Killer stuff from a pro that knows the ropes all too well. --Midwest Record, June 11, 2011
Mark Wills has had plenty of hits since his 1996 debut but for some reason has never become a Nashville A-Lister. To refresh your memory:Mark Wills released 6 albums on Mercury Records, including the best-selling platinum certified Wish You Were Here. Mark's charted 16 singles on the Billboard country charts, all of which made the Top 40. In addition, Mark has had two #1 country singles, "Wish You Were Here" and "19 Somethin" which was the most played country single at radio the past decade with a radio audience of over 3 billion listeners. Besides these two #1 singles, six more of his singles have reached the Top Ten on the charts: "Jacob's Ladder", "Places I've Never Been", "I Do (Cherish You)", "Don't Laugh At Me", "She's In Love" and a cover version of Brian McKnight's "Back At One".And yet stardom at the level of a Tim McGraw or Brad Paisely or Jason Aldean eluded him. Maybe it was because he didn't wear that cowboy hat when western haberdashery was more important than talent to radio and record labels. Cut loose from the major label machine after his "And The Crowd Went Wild" in 2003, Mark has made his living on the road as Nashville moved on to the next big thing and the one after that and the one after that. Now he's back again, this time as the debut country act from urban powerhouse Gracie Productions via the Starlight imprint with distribution by The Orchard. Did I hear a collective "Who?" rise from country radio?Conversely Mark recorded his debut EP for Gracie with legendary producer and writer Chris Lindsey (Carrie Underwood, Lonestar, Martina McBride, Sara Evans, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Kellie Pickler). No one's asking "Who?" when that name is mentioned. And to further sweeten the pot and raise anticipation, Chris Lindsey co-wrote and produced Mark's biggest hit "19 Somethin'."And the two of them have scored big time with "Looking For America," a flawless 9 song collection that hits upon all the current hit trends in country music. "Rockin' The Country" does exactly that, comfortably filling the space between Travis Tritt and Zac Brown. "Looking For America" is beautifully subtle political commentary on how life, even in the heartland has changed in the recent past. "Crazy Being Home" (with both electric and acoustic versions) is a heartfelt song about how difficult it is to return to normal life after fighting a war. "Like There's No Yesterday" is a love song that cleverly turns the old "like there's no tomorrow" trope inside out for something fresh. "Where Did I Lose You" is a beautiful song about trying to figure out when love went lost while "Smokin' Gun" is about the moment you actually figure it out. And somehow, "The Phantom Of The Opry" manages to avoid being as cheesy as its title might lead you to expect by bringing back images of Nashville under water after last year's flooding.Mark Willis as always is in great voice and offers strong performances throughout, using power and restraint in equal parts and being a songwriter's best friend. But will it be enough? With Jason Aldean and Brad Paisely in the Top 5, with Justin Moore's sophomore CD debuting this week on top of the Billboard Country chart, with Ronnie Dunn's debut solo set in the Top 10, with Kenny Chesney, Colt Ford, Billy Currington, Josh Turner, Keith Urban, Darius Rucker, Jerrod Neiman and Easton Corbin all still charted, and imminent new releases from Blake Shelton, Chris Young, Eric Church, Billy Ray Cyrus, Luke Bryan and others by Toby Keith, George Strait and American Idol winner Scotty McCreery in the works, is there room for Mark Wills at country radio in a summer that is already top heavy with superstars and and wannabe superstars?Mark Wills has delivered the goods. Now it's up to his new label to let his fans and country radio know that he's back and as good as ever, if not even better.
