SPOILERS FOR THE SHOW ON CINEMA AT THE CINEMA. IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT, AND ITS VARIOUS OTHER CONNECTIVE SHOWS, I RECOMMEND IT BEFORE WATCHING THIS OR READING REVIEWS. ITS EVEN MORE FUN WHEN YOU DONT KNOW.Its not often you find a rabbit hole online that is worth going down. For some reason, fairly recently (maybe because of Comedy Bang Bang, I don't know) YouTube keeps showing me videos of Tim and Eric Awesome show clips. I never watched it at the time- being a snobby 20 something- but I got the bug and watched all of it on HBO Max recently. Great show, but it didn't end there of course. First I saw the trial of Tim on YouTube. Tried watching it, but I didn't get it out of context. Then I watched something else (I don't know why but I can't remember what it was) and there were comments about On cinema being a great show Tim was doing. So I looked it up on a whim. Wow. Just wow. If you really watch the whole thing up to this point (it takes some work, not all the videos are in one place on YouTube and some Decker seasons are only free on the adult swim website) it is a really crazy ride that goes from a pretty innocuous bad movie reviews show to the show being about anything else. Its a show like I've never seen, and is mostly just a small following of people watching. Its crazy! This is made all the stranger when in the show the characters (whom are using the names of the actors to add to the comedy and confusion for those not quick enough to "get it") make a YouTube "movie" which ends up being a super low budget web show. If you keep watching suddenly the show was actually on TV (it was picked up by Adult Swim). The show is exactly the same as its web series counterpart which leads me to wonder if someone watches it on TV, not knowing anything about On Cinema, would they get the joke? Would the joke be different for them? These are fascinating questions you don't normally get with most shows as most shows don't span multiple shows, movies, and other various media to get the entire story which has taken place now for almost 10 years (actually, maybe over 10 years). Its truly remarkable. So that all being said I continue to wonder what some random viewer would think of this faux documentary. Unlike Decker, which made no attempts to explain itself, this actually does explain that it is part of a larger story, but I still wonder if any random watcher would even know what any of it is talking about. It does a decent job at telling a story about two narcissistic YouTube reviewers, but even then you still won't know the depths to which they go in the entirety of the On Cinema show as a whole. If you haven't watched On Cinema, you owe it to yourself to find ALL of the connected episodes, which again span multiple shows, videos, this documentary, and a podcast, and check it all out. Its an insane ride.Heres hoping we get more when this virus is over. This whole thing is the most insane way to tell a story I've ever seen, and its great!
