My husband has read it cover to cover, even finding some of his treasured anvils in it. He and my son, who is a bladesmith said it was the perfect reference book for their collection of anvils.This was everything and more that I was told it would be on the blacksmiths pub podcast. After listening to the episode discussing the book and the Postman anvil collection I had to get this dedication to the history of the craft.I recieved this with a damaged cover thanks to shipping. Other than that it's a beautiful book and reads like your experiencing a written museum rather than just a book.This book is a great reference if your interested in learning about what anvil you may have. It is also interesting as a historical timeline of a tool that helped build America.I just finished reading the whole book a month ago. This is a must have for anyone who loves history/anvils/blacksmithing/vintage sales brochures. It's got it all. I paid 80 something friggen dollars for this... this school text book lookin' thing and I do not regret it at all. Damn, I love this book.Purchased this book to go along with an Arm & Hammer anvil I bought my husband for his birthday. It has 25 pages devoted to that brand. So much information I couldnt put it down. I got the date the anvil was made and great detail on the methods used across the makers years of production. This book could be dangerous, as it makes me want to go on a quest to find more anvil treasures out there. Buy it, you wont regret it.This is the definitive history on American anvils and the companies that produced them. Where the author had access to the company records he listed the serial numbers and manufacturing dates of anvils. I was able to date my Arm & Hammer, 171 pound anvil to 1910. A must have book for anyone that loves the history of old machinery, tools, or blacksmithing.This is as big as a textbook, packed with information. I bought it as a gift for my dad who is a farrier/blacksmith. He loves it and I found it fascinating. Neat history.This is a great book. Considered the "Bible" about Anvils. The author has made some added corrections pertaining to the Mousehole Forge anvils and has since published a book about the Mousehole Forge. At first search I was able to identify an unknown scarce mark. A lot of reading and information!:)
