Lots of birds.I bought both a Peterson's guide to birds of the eastern US and a Sibley Guide to Birds of Eastern North America. I got them for my granddaughter for her birthday. She's 9 years old and likes to look at birds. I gave her both and told her to select the one she liked the best. I would keep the other one for myself. She chose the Peterson's guide. That would have been my choice as well, after I compared the two. Peterson's illustrations are larger. Sibley's is ok though and might depend more on your level of experience bird watching. For the beginner, I think Peterson's is better.Excellent reference for backyard bird watchers. Great renditions of these birds. We have multiple copies of the classic North American guide by SIbley, and recently bought the smaller field guide for western birds that we stow in our RV. Bought the complementary eastern guide and it is every bit as good as the others. I like having the smaller format for the two regional guides, which are easier to put in a backpack or carry by hand. The ‘big bible’ stays at home. It’s hard to read for older eyes. But I know my birds really well. For an older birder, you might want something with larger print. It’s very handy for travel. One of the best bird ID books on the market, a true rival to the Peterson’s classic.Very easy to pack in my camera bag. Loads of great illustrations . Very informative.Excellent compact field guide to birds east of the Mississippi River with concise text, range maps and many plumages/sub-species included. Easily fits into most pockets which is a big plus but that is at the expense of the size of the illustrations. The Groove-billed Ani illustration highlights this point as you would struggle to see any grooves in the illustration. The National Geographic book is a better book for the whole country with larger illustrations and tex and range maps opposite in traditional field guide style BUT you would need a much bigger pocket to carry it in!Was a present. Think she was happy with it.classic bird bookExcellent book which came in really handy on 3 week holiday in states. Was able to identify most birds seen using it.We took the book on our trip to New England where we found it to be invaluable helping us identify the birds we saw. Many of which we were unfamiliar with.
