There might have been a rocker or two on Phosphorescent, but America's Choice was The Tuna's first fully functional hiomicidal rocker. The Tuna were actually Leaders in Rock during the 70's. OK, there was Punk, and then Disco, but quietly, not so quietly really, Hot Tuna. They typify rock west of the Mississippi, and maybe west of the Rockies. You could not call them corporate rock. Rooted in the blues of Gary Davis, Hot Tuna had an iconoclastic sound of their own which stemmed from the longtime duo of Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Cassidy. In my humble opinion, even playing rock und roll, they never sold out. 5 Stars belongs. Johnny P.
